Youth Garden Grant
The Youth Garden Grant is supported by the National Gardening Association and provides grants based on "Leadership, educational, social, and/or environmental programming, innovation, sustainability, need, and community support." In February of 2004, we were awarded supplies and reference books from a number of gardening vendors across the country.

Palmetto Pride Community Grant
The Palmetto Pride Community Prdie Grant program provides funding to community groups, government organizations, and neighborhood associations and non-profit organizations with the necessary resources to spearhead anti-litter and beautification efforts with their communities. In February of 2005 we were awarded $1,742.00 for plants to be purchased for Blue Ridge Field .

Foothills Community Foundation
The Foothills Community Foundation is a foundation that supports the health and well being of "the four South Carolina counties of Abbeville, Anderson, Oconee and Pickens." We asked for assistance with Phase I of construction. There is no set date as to when we will hear back from the Foundation.

Surdna Foundation
The Surdna Foundation offers project and general support grants for "fostering catalytic, entrepreneurial programs, which offer viable solution to difficult systemic problems." We asked for $300,000 from the Surdna Foundation, and do not know of a response date.

General Mills Champions Youth Nutrition and Fitness Grant
The General Mills Foundation supports the improvement of youth nutrition and fitness. The goal of the Foundation's grant, General Mills Champion grant, is to "encourage communities in the United States to improve the eating and physical activity patterns of young people, ages 2-20." Specifically, grants are awarded to organizations that "help youth develop good nutrition and fitness habits." The General Mills Foundation awards 50 grants annually, up to $10,000 each, based on need and the scope of the project. We did not ask for a specific dollar amount.

Carolina Panthers Charities Community Grant

Carolina Panthers Charities awards grants to organizations whose goals are in line with the Foundation's mission statement: to "create new athletic opportunities for children, to support their educational needs and to promote healthy lifestyles for families in the Carolinas." Past grants awarded by Carolina Panthers Charities have amounted to over $100,000.

Captain Planet Foundation Grant
The Captain Planet Foundation funds and supports "hands-on environmental projects" for children and youth. Their objective is to "encourage innovative programs that empower children and youth around the world to work individually and collectively to solve environmental problems in their neighborhoods and communities." Within the past eight years, the Captain Planet Foundation has supported nine different projects throughout South Carolina, most of which were in small towns similar to Seneca. Grant awards are currently limited to $500.


Applied For But Did Not Receive

Project Orange Thumb
Sponsored by Fiskars Garden Tools, Project Orange Thumb "provides community garden groups with the tools, plants and materials they need to reach their own goals for neighborhood beautification and horticultural education." Friends of Blue Ridge Field applied for but did not receive this grant for 2004. We are eligible to reapply in 2005.
